Work Smarter, Not Harder

The physical and mental demands of space exploration and warfighting create significant challenging operational situations. KBR delivers training and rehab solutions to optimize human performance and recovery.

KBR has extensive experience and is internationally recognized in the evaluation of human physiology in training for experimental needs, cognitive readiness, job performance, as well as operations in extreme environments. We apply our unique, holistic understanding to develop programs to prepare individuals for — and help them recuperate from — rigorous mental and physical challenges.

The demands of extreme acceleration, microgravity, the stresses of isolation, and spatial disorientation and fatigue requires a specialized set of experts. KBR incorporates the latest technology – like sensors and wearables – as well as innovative techniques to enhance the modern warrior’s perseverance, capabilities, and mindset. With more than 50 years of experience building unmatched and well-rounded patterns of performance, KBR is known as the team behind the warrior – the mission-critical support system for those who need it most.

“We apply our unique, holistic understanding to develop programs to prepare individuals for — and help them recuperate from — rigorous mental and physical challenges.”

KBR provides comprehensive training regimens designed to provide the necessary conditioning to cope with and endure the challenges of extreme environments. Since training for operations can only alleviate the mental and physical toll taken by individuals exposed to these challenges, we apply the latest science and research to mitigate the potentially burdensome and severe effects of extreme environments and get individuals back to normal once removed from those extreme situations.

Training in Action

Under the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), the Preservation of the Force and Family (POTFF) Program provides a holistic method to addressing the short and long-term well-being of U.S. Special Operations Forces. Our strength and conditioning coaches act as one pillar of many throughout the program’s integrated approach to health, with the primary responsibility to establish and administer effective strength and conditioning protocols to prepare the warfighter to be mission-ready at all times.

This concept is also applied to KBR’s work on NASA’s Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC), where we prepare astronauts for a variety of physical and mental challenges. In one example, KBR conducts astronaut spacesuit and hardware training at the Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL), the largest indoor pool in the world. The NBL holds a full-size replica of the International Space Station where trainees can experience neutral buoyancy to simulate the microgravity astronauts are exposed to in space.

Since the 1960s, KBR has also operated and maintained a human-rated centrifuge and altitude chambers in San Antonio, Texas, where fast-jet pilots and astronauts, including the famous John Glenn, came to train. The centrifuge simulates gravitational forces that these individuals experience during high-speed flight.

In a space industry first, NASA recently granted KBR the right to train private astronauts directly at NASA facilities. As a part of this effort, KBR will be working with Axiom Space and NASA on the first private astronaut mission to the space station in support of the Commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Program.
