KBR Young Professionals Kick-Start Their Careers in IMPACT

Publish date

IMPACT is one of KBR's most successful internal employee organizations and serves as a catalyst for developing young professionals. IMPACT provides numerous benefits and opportunities for its members both in and around the office. As the future leaders of KBR, young professionals can develop individually and grow within the company through volunteer experiences, leadership positions, mentoring and networking opportunities with their colleagues. Additionally, IMPACT serves as a foundation for establishing lasting friendships between coworkers at KBR.

IMPACT was originally founded in 2001 as a group for recent college graduates entering the company with zero to seven years of professional work experience. Since then, IMPACT has blossomed into what it is today: an organization run by young professionals for young professionals. With thirteen active chapters spanning ten different countries across the globe, IMPACT has grown to reflect the diverse professional work force with KBR, offering young professionals a chance to connect with their colleagues no matter the miles or ethnic boundaries between them.

"IMPACT is a tremendous organization and a valuable asset to young professionals just beginning their careers at KBR," said Matt Frank, Project Control Specialist and IMPACT Chairman. "Joining IMPACT was really the launching pad that set off my professional career, and the organization played an integral role in the development and growth of my professional profile. Now, as more and more young professionals come to work for KBR and join our organization, it is my job to ensure that they are getting just as much out of IMPACT as I did when I first began at KBR." An IMPACT membership opens many doors and opportunities for career development. Young professionals serving in IMPACT leadership positions often collaborate and work closely with KBR executives and company thought leaders. In addition, IMPACT provides members with opportunities to learn more about the company and its various projects. For example, IMPACT Houston hosts monthly lunch and learn sessions featuring community and charitable organizations as well as KBR executives and leaders who talk about the company, its various projects or their experiences in the professional world.

In addition to career development, philanthropy is one of the core principles of IMPACT. Each year young professionals in KBR have the opportunity to give back to their local communities by participating in a variety of volunteer and charity events. KBR's Charity Golf Tournament in Houston is facilitated entirely by IMPACT members and is the company's most successful philanthropic event. Since its inception in 2007, the event has raised more than $4.5 million for local and national nonprofits that align with KBR's charitable focus areas of education and health.

That same philanthropic spirit is shared among IMPACT chapters around the world. In the United Kingdom, IMPACT London young professionals baked cakes and deserts for the Charity Cake Sale. All proceeds went to benefit The Children's Trust which is the UK's leading charity for children with brain injuries and ailments. Members from the IMPACT Saudi Arabia chapter have given back to their local community in a variety of ways including participation in a charity run for scoliosis awareness, visiting senior citizens at a local social services organization, hosting a soccer tournament and a blood drive. In addition, IMPACT Saudi donated 20,000 SAR ($5,300 U.S.) to Mudhar Charity, a well-known local social services organization in Saudi Arabia. The team conducted fundraising efforts and health awareness campaigns to achieve this accomplishment. Although IMPACT Saudi is one of the organization's newest chapters, it is quickly growing into one of IMPACT's most successful groups.

IMPACT Saudi Arabia participated in their second annual Blood Donation campaign at King Fahad Specialist Hospital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

Mark Sopp, KBR Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, serves as IMPACT Executive Sponsor and is passionate about helping others grow in their unique talents in order to advance in their personal and professional lives. "I am proud of the work our IMPACT members have done for themselves, for KBR and for their individual local communities. IMPACT is a fantastic incubator for our young professionals' career development, and we eagerly await what they bring to the table as members of the next generation of KBR leaders."

IMPACT has become an important part of the KBR culture thanks to its member's enthusiasm, hard work and contributions to the organization.
