Abbie Roberts is a communications assistant on the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) contract at Sellafield, supporting the delivery of major nuclear infrastructure projects to decommission the nuclear site.

‘Flourishing People’ is central to partnership’s strategy and there’s not a better example than Abbie.

She joined the PPP team in 2022 through its internship scheme and has grabbed every opportunity ever since, including recently completing a Level 4 PR & Communications Apprenticeship - earning a distinction.

She has also represented KBR and PPP in Parliament in 2023 as part of the Nuclear Industry Association’s Nuclear Week in Parliament.

Abbie had breezed through the internship scheme and proved she was going to excel pursuing a role in our communications team. She was rapidly onboarded onto an apprenticeship pathway, after a search supported by our learning and development team who helped to find the perfect course, and continued to implement her learning on the job. Abbie works in West Cumbria and supports the communications team’s editorial planning process, writing news stories, capturing content, and working closely with our major project teams.

Abbie said:

“The internship programme has provided a strong foundation for my career, and I’m grateful for the continued support I’ve received throughout my development.

“Completing my apprenticeship with a distinction has been a proud achievement. A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way to achieve this, and I look forward to the next steps in my journey.”

In addition to completing her apprenticeship, Abbie has also found time to volunteer as part of the Chapter One Reading Programme, offering weekly reading support to a local primary school child.

Well done, Abbie!
