Project Details

  • Sydney Metro Northwest, formerly the North West Rail Link, is the first stage of Sydney Metro, a new stand-alone railway network that will revolutionise the way Sydney travels.
  • Once complete, Sydney Metro Northwest will be the first fully-automated metro rail system in Australia.
  • The project consists of construction of 23 km of a new electrified, twin track, rapid transit railway between Epping and Rouse Hill, twin 15 km tunnels from Bella Vista to Epping (Australia’s longest rail tunnels), eight new railway stations and 4000 commuter car parking spaces, a maintenance depot, and upgrade of the 13 km Epping–Chatswood rail link to exclusively run rapid transit trains and deliver a total of 36 km of rapid transit rail to north-western Sydney.

Project Highlights

KBR as part of the design joint venture with Mott MacDonald and SMEC has provided engineering and design of track, overhead traction, rail systems, tunnel drainage, associated civil works, structures, building services, and a rail maintenance facility during the tender.
