In May of this year, KBR was awarded a contract by Basra Oil Company (BOC) for the project management and development of the Majnoon Oil Field in Basra, Iraq. The Manjoon Oil Field project further extends KBR's long history in Iraq and allows KBR to develop a long-standing partnership with BOC while also providing a significant economic benefit to the Iraqi economy and the country's citizens.

KBR provides Basra Oil Company with overall EPCM services including brownfield and greenfield scopes to maintain production for the Majnoon Oil Field.

In addition to overall EPCM services, KBR provides brownfield and greenfield scopes to maintain production. The Majnoon Oil Field is comprised of the Central Processing Facility (CPF) and Degassing Stations 1 & 2 (DS1 and DS2). All three facilities are responsible for a current production rate of 200-220 thousand barrels of oil per day (kbpod).

BOC plans to further expand the oil field's capacity by an additional 200 kbopd. This expansion requires additional wells and several LSTK EPC contracts to be awarded for facilities which include a new CPF, Sour Gas Treatment Plant, Central Power Plant, Flowlines and other associated services to meet BOC's production targets. As part of the project expansion initiative, KBR is to perform the Integration Front End Engineering Design (FEED) process to ensure that newly acquired LSTK EPC contracts are fully integrated.

The Majnoon Oil Field project further expands KBR’s storied history and strengthens its strong relationships in Iraq.

Since the early stages of the Majnoon Oil Field project, KBR has made it a primary focus to support the local Iraqi workforce and other Iraqi stakeholders in a variety of ways.

KBR has awarded contracts to many local construction companies during the construction phase of the project. In addition, the KBR team in Basra comprises of many Iraqi nationals who are in senior field positions and are part of the KBR site management team. Iraqi nationals throughout the entire project also hold a wide array of engineering and non-engineering positions.

Tony Bondin, Vice President, Deputy Project Director for Majnoon Field Development, believes current success in delivering on the Majnoon Oil Field project development can be attributed to KBR's innovative and collaborative approach to job execution from all parties. "Nonstop communication and teamwork with BOC and other subcontractors have been key to the project's overall success," said Bondin. "It is necessary that all members of the KBR team, from our site managers to those in the field, are on the same page when it comes to project execution so that we can deliver for our customers."

KBR has made it a primary focus to support local and national stakeholders by providing jobs for local civilians and awarding contracts to Iraqi construction companies.

The successful development and future expansion of the Majnoon Oil Field is a testament to KBR's capabilities of delivering on projects in the oil industry. KBR looks forward to project completion and building a sustainable and lasting legacy in the Basra region.
