Leatherhead Office Opens Doors to the Community

Publish date

KBR's Leatherhead, UK office recently hosted its inaugural Open Doors event, providing an opportunity for the public to visit the campus and learn more about KBR's many projects and the career paths that the company offers. KBR invited members of the local community, school children from over twenty different schools, their parents, teachers and administrators to spend time with KBR team members and gain a better understanding of how KBR operates and does business across the wide array of services that the company delivers.

KBR's business leaders were on hand with their teams to interact with guests.

The event also served as an opportunity to encourage students to take up Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects to coincide with the 'Year of Engineering', a national campaign to increase awareness and understanding of what engineers do among young people. Students from nearby schools were surprised to find the broad and incredible selection of career opportunities offered by a company like KBR. This [event] was amazing; I never knew there were so many career choices and has made me reconsidering my options. Never even thought of engineering as a choice but I will now," said one student.

"It was rewarding to see so many visitors engaged and excited about KBR's work and our initiatives at the local level," said KBR's Martin Simmonite, Senior Vice President. "It was especially rewarding to see the students, any of which could be the next generation of leaders at KBR, and their enthusiasm for the career options available in the fields of engineering, project management, technology, consulting or any of our business support roles. It was also a pleasure to see so many of our staff working together to support the event and bringing their own families to the workplace," he continued.

With interactive stands representing KBR's Government, Hydrocarbons, Technology and Consulting businesses as well as Digital, Social, Careers and Business Zones, it was easy for guests to see the scale and complexity of KBR's business. By bringing KBR's diverse business and project teams together, even KBR employees learned more about the company's project profile. The event had a fantastic energy about it, especially with the presence of a Heavy Equipment Transporter tractor and Police car outside of KBR's building. Over 400 guests came through the event over the course of the afternoon, a great success for the first of many similar events to come."
