Increasing demand for light olefins, declining demand for transportation fuels and market uncertainties (like COVID-19) have imposed new challenges on the future of refining industry.
FCC process technology, developed for maximizing gasoline, will play a key role in helping refiners address the future. One of the original co-developers of FCC Technology, KBR is a pioneer in FCC process and technology development. Over the last seven decades, KBR’s FCC Technology has continually evolved to address the challenges faced by the Refiner. In addition to hardware development, KBR has adapted FCC process technology to maximize olefins through processes such as MAXOFIN, K-COT™ and K-PRO™.

Rahul Pillai, Technology Manager, KBR
Based in Houston, Rahul joined KBR’s Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) team in 2008 and is responsible for licensing, marketing, engineering and technology development. His experience includes process engineering design activities for grassroots FCC units, FCC revamp projects, studies, technology proposals, technical services, and plant start-up assignments.
Rahul has authored and presented technical papers at various conferences around the world and holds has a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station and a Master of Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston.
