KBR Technology Center's Analytical Laboratory

Our research & development laboratory features standard analytical facilities to analyze feedstocks and products using methods such as gas chromatography (including PIANO), ICP for metals, x-ray and GC-MS. We employ specialized analytical methods for coal, heavy oil and catalyst evaluations that help us tie performance to physical properties.

KBRTC's engineers specialize in the design of process research and development bench units, cold-flow models and pilot plants. Our staff can provide a complete package of process development services that include conceptual process design, P&ID development, control system design, process automation system specification, equipment procurement and custom fabrication.

We can also draw upon the vast resources of KBR by obtaining technical experts and specialists in metallurgy, materials, mechanical design, process scale-up, thermodynamics, risk analysis and process evaluation.

Pilot Plant Facilities

Ethylene/Steam Pyrolysis Pilot Plant

Supports process improvements of our SCORE™ (Selective Cracking Optimum REcovery) ethylene technology, and provides technical service for commercial ethylene plants.

FCC Pilot Plant

Generates yield data for feedstock evaluation and catalyst comparison, with production of sufficient quantities of liquid products for complete analytical characterization. We also use this pilot plant for research and development of our new Superflex™ and Maxofin™ processes for the production of propylene.

ROSE™ (Residuum Oil Supercritical Extraction) Pilot Plant

Simulates commercial ROSE™ unit operation, and studies the effects of operating parameters on a variety of heavy petroleum feedstocks.

Delayed Coking Pilot Plant

One of the largest Coker pilot plants in the industry, this unit can use a wide variety of feedstocks to simulate Refinery Cokers under various operating conditions. Data generated can be used to design new units or improve existing commercial plants.

Visbreaking/ Thermal Cracking Pilot Plant
