KBR Secures Major Water Pipeline Contract

KBR has again proven its capacity as a value-for-money engineering consultant by recently securing the Northern Pipeline Interconnector Stage 2, the next major trunk line in the Queensland's water grid.

The most densely populated part of the Australian state of Queensland has officially been in drought for several years. In response, the Queensland government has fast-tracked plans and allocated considerable funding for improving the water distribution network.

Stage 2 has an approximate capital value of approximately US$270 million and consists of a 65 kilometer (40 mile), 50 inch pipeline, a reservoir and four pumping stations. KBR will undertake all of the engineering, community consultation and environmental approvals for this challenging project.

This is the fourth water pipeline project that KBR and its Alliance partners have undertaken for government client LinkWater. The previous projects - the Southern Regional Water Pipeline Project, the Eastern Pipeline Interconnector early investigations and works, and the Northern Pipeline Interconnector Stage 1 - have a combined capital value of approximately US$1 billion.

The original Southern Regional Water Pipeline project was this year's recipient of the KBR G&I William Coffey Award for the Asia Pacific region and was also recently awarded a Project Safety Excellence Award by its peers at the Queensland Major Contractors Association. The latter award was in recognition of 1 million incident free man hours, further confirming the Alliance's excellence in delivery implementation services.
