Purifier™ Ammonia Process

KBR's well-proven cryogenic syngas Purifier™ Ammonia Process offers several advantages:

  • The size of the primary reformer is reduced by approximately one third, as compared to a traditional ammonia plant. This is because the Purifier removes all the methane from the syngas which permits.
  • Purifier provides stability and flexibility of operation. This is because the Purifier maintains the composition of the feed to the synthesis loop, independent of variations in the front end of the plant.
  • The hydrogen/nitrogen ratio to the synthesis loop is controlled by the Purifier, which is located just before the suction of the synthesis gas compressor. This provides more direct and stable control than varying the flow of air to the secondary reformer.
  • Purifier provides a very clean, dry make-up gas to the synthesis loop. This reduces the load on the synloop and refrigeration system resulting in capital and operating cost savings.
  • The small synloop purge is recycled to the Purifier, so a separate purge gas recovery unit is not needed.
