FCC operators are typically more concerned with maintaining the unit stability than with optimizing its operation. These characteristics make FCC units good candidates for the application of APC systems. A key characteristic of the APC system offered by KBR is that it deals with the whole FCC process unit and not with single input/output variable relationships. It combines process engineering expertise with state of the art process control technology to achieve a more stable operation and higher profitability. Typical benefits of applying APC to FCC units range from $0.10 - $0.30/ barrel of feed.
