Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD)

Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD) is a numerical tool used to simulate 3-D fluid flow, thermal dynamics and heat transfer related problems. CFD allows a better understanding of processes and provides visual 3-D information on temperature, pressure, velocity, turbulence and flow paths.

Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD) subdivides flow domain into numerous cells and solves non-linear conservation and transport equations for each and every cell iteratively to obtain a converged solution. CFD simulation can be applied to both steady state and dynamic situations.

The Benefits of Using Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD):

  • Reduces design errors and risk
  • Optimizes process design, by limiting the over or under design of a systems
  • Expands troubleshooting capabilities
  • Solves real world problems without test data
  • Increases understanding of complex behavior

KBR Uses Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD) for the Study of:

  • Complex fluid flow
  • Effects of structures on fluid dispersion
  • Complex interactions of mass, energy and momentum flows
  • Reactor and furnace dynamics
