KBR Joint Venture Wins Two Awards from ABC of the Carolinas

The KBR/Turner Joint Venture was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of the Carolinas with an Excellence in Construction Award for its exemplary work and outstanding safety record in constructing The Boeing Company’s South Carolina 787 Final Assembly Building in North Charleston.

KBR/Turner was formally presented with ABC’s Eagle Award — the highest award — at ABC of the Carolinas’ 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony. The project won in the category Industrial Projects — Over $50 Million. KBR/Turner’s project leadership formally accepted the award, a specially designed sculpture of the American eagle, symbolizing free enterprise. In addition, KBR/Turner’s Boeing South Carolina project was a Finalist for ABC’s 2011 Project of the Year, and KBR/Turner received the 2011 Free Enterprise Award for having the largest number of ABC members working directly on the project.

KBR/Turner, with design partner BRPH, completed the Boeing South Carolina 787 Final Assembly Building in May 2011. Shortly following the completion, the truck inspection building, welcome center, flightline, site cafeteria, and delivery center were also completed. Throughout the duration of the project, many milestones were reached including, both 500,000 and 1,000,000 man-hours of safety without a lost-time incident.

KBR Building Group and Turner Construction Company have been partnering on select major projects in the Carolinas for nearly 20 years and have won multiple construction, safety and performance awards for the Boeing project.
